Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2 DI-D DPF 6AT 4 AWD – 100 Years Limited Edition

In recent days, we tested the latest product from the 6th largest Japanese car manufacturer in an editorial test. The Mitsubishi car company does not need to be introduced further. This Japanese brand has recently prepared a number of novelties and technical innovations for us. This time, however, we will look not only at the new engine and its connection with the new generation JATCO CVT transmission, but also at the electronics and safety systems that this annual beauty is studded with.

At the outset, it should be noted that the market in this segment is full of competing models that we are all familiar with, but as is customary in our editorial office, we always try to bring a slightly different perspective to our readers. A seemingly average car, which in terms of price x performance exceeds the price, can always have something going for it. You just need to choose the right point of view.

But let's break down the individual aspects one by one…

INTERIOR

As soon as you open the driver's door, the first thing that catches your eye is the annual surcharge "100 YEARS" sill plate. This return to the past is a clear signal to which markets Mitsubishi (and not only) is aiming with this model. And it actually makes sense, but let's move on… As soon as you jump into this over four and a half meter long ship, you will feel that something is different. The seating position is really high for the given segment and the dashboard does not prevent an almost perfect overview of the situation around the car. A feeling of security and perspective immediately comes. This is only underlined by the large rear-view mirrors, in which blind spot monitoring can of course be installed for an additional fee. Textile seats with adequate lateral guidance are also very pleasant. In the winter, the powerful heating system will surely please you in this case too, the control of which you will have to look for… and when you find it, you might be a little surprised. According to the designers from Mišivbuš, the space or rather the placemat under the center armrest is said to be the most ideal. (I am reminded of the giant dashboard, which a larger Pajero would not be ashamed of.) The steering wheel could be somewhat stronger, at least in places for ideal grip. Active control elements can be evaluated as purely intuitive, whether we are talking about cruise control, control of the car's driving in traffic lanes, or the function of maintaining a distance from the vehicle. The Pioneer brand navigation was most likely installed secondarily, so let's close both eyes. The resolution of the video from the reversing camera was reminiscent of the computer games Prince of Persia or Super Mario from the nineties.

What cannot be denied about the Outlander's interior, however, is its spaciousness in the first and second row of seats and in the luggage compartment. I would like to remind you that we had the opportunity to test the annual version and a version extended by approx. 15 cm.

EXTERIOR

Admittedly, the design department at Mitsubishi was not really lazy. The new Outlander really did well. With regard to the interior, this beauty can hardly be faulted. In the tested brown variant, or granite brown, as the documentation states, the design curves stand out, and we can say that it is probably the most practical variant for movement outside the city or on paved roads.

The new model's mask seems to say, "I'm a class of elegance and I don't belong off-road". The lights and their LED daytime running lights remind us that we are looking at a piece of Asian production. The chrome bars dividing the mask and fenders are interesting. The door trim, which corresponds to the chrome trim on the Outlander's fifth door, is very modest and sporty elegant. The rear lights then only emphasize the generosity of the entire exterior.

ENGINE AND RIDE

Driving with this novelty is … pleasant. You get used to how big the car's proportions are rather quickly. In fact, it completely grows on your body. It is incredibly legible both in city traffic, where it perfectly handles potholes and unevenness. It does not disappoint even on asphalt roads when turning at higher speeds. Of course, it is not for any great overtaking, but if you take the wheel even at higher than the permitted speeds in the districts, the car twists, "squats", but keeps the track. Outside the city and outside the districts, it does not disappoint even in the most difficult conditions. If you want to wade through the mud or need to overcome a significant elevation gain in wet terrain, the Outlander will be a good partner that will not disappoint. I dare say that he will not be surprised by any off-road polygon or deeper ford.

From the driver's seat, you can always see where the vehicle is headed and how to approach the obstacle. All you have to do is choose the appropriate transmission and wheel drive mode. If you don't want to worry about this either, the automatic system will take excellent care of the car and the crew. The gear box is completely standard and perhaps there is nothing to complain about. A person who has an Outlander in their sights may not even use the paddles under the steering wheel, but why not have them when they are included in the price.

We almost forgot about the "protectors of the planet" button, the so-called green mode, which is not bad at all when wandering through the countryside or driving in cities in combination with the economic operation indicator. The car is somewhat lazier, but it is completely sufficient for the normal traffic that the customer goes through. Plus you save a tree!

CONCLUSION

The conclusion itself can clearly say that we had the opportunity to test a car that you buy if you don't want to invest more than a million, your journey home or to the cottage leads through a muddy field road or because you are a hunter.
