MGB Frontline Developments – old MG as new

You've probably never heard of Frontline Developments . But if you know Singer 's Porsche 911 or Eagle 's Jaguar E-Type , Frontline Developments does the same with MGBs . Specifically, they bear the name MGB Abingdon Edition .

You can buy this car for 3.4 million crowns. For this considerable money, you get a classic MGB car with many modern modifications that make the car better equipped and drivable. Under the hood is a two-liter from the Mazda MX-5 NC . However, it has been properly modified, the volume has been increased to 2.5 liters and its new output is 304 horsepower. Thanks to the small, lightweight body, the car accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. The speedometer is calibrated to 170 miles per hour (273 km/h), but with the aerodynamics of the MG , the car cannot come close to this value.

The six-speed transmission also comes from the Mazda MX-5. The entire chassis received a complete redesign with a completely new rear axle. This fundamentally positively affected the driving and handling of the car. However, the car is not tuned purely for sporty driving, the chassis is able to ensure sufficiently comfortable transportation on poor-quality roads. This makes the MGB Abingdon Edition feel better on the road than on the circuit. In the interior, you will find a lot of accessories to evoke the retro look of the car. In the leather-upholstered cabin you will find a three-spoke steering wheel and classic chrome switches. But the audio system is modern, providing perfect sound. In addition, you can treat yourself to satellite navigation, air conditioning or heated seats. The owners of the original MGBs were definitely not used to that.
