Renault is working hard to complete the Alpine A110-50

The successor to the legendary Alpine A110 is starting to take shape. Since last year's A110-50 concept , a lot of work has been done in the factories in Dieppe.

The head of Renault, Carlos Tavares , said in an interview with the magazine Autocar that the modern Alpine will establish, together with the Alfa Romeo 4C, a segment of affordable super sports cars . The main target group for these cars should be young people and car enthusiasts.

For them, Alpine will try to offer low weight and high performance at a relatively affordable price. Autocar 's sources are talking about a four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-liter with an output of about 284 horsepower, which will work with a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch EDC automatic, which is also available for the smaller Clio RS. With a weight of 1,000 kg , the dynamics should be more than decent, and at a price of around 50,000 pounds (approx. 1.5 million crowns) also relatively affordable.

The novelty should ride on a spatial frame , which will be made mainly of steel. To make it not so heavy, the engineers will build some parts from carbon and composite materials. As for the design, Tavares says that 70% of the car is already done. The novelty should mix retro elements with the contemporary design of Renaults . We can look forward to four round headlights, extended fenders or a characteristic "nose".

Sales of the new Alpine would begin in 2016 , with only a few hundred units per year planned.
