The McLaren F1 continues to fascinate fans 16 years after the last piece rolled off the production line. Between 1992 and 1998, only 106 cars were built in Woking , and only 64 of them were produced in the road version. And of such a small number, only two were in red. One of them, the twenty-eighth piece produced, belonged to none other than Michael Andretti . He had it made while he was racing for the McLaren Formula 1 team, but after a year sold it to a Japanese collector. He could not legally drive it in the USA . The car returned to the US in 2002 and changed several owners until it was now purchased by a British collector for an incredible sum of 6.2 million pounds. This is the highest amount for which any McLaren F1 has ever been sold.
