Radical RXC Turbo – An even stronger road racer!

The British company Radical has officially presented a new version of its road model RXC , which was given the nickname Turbo . The car was not created by simply adding a turbocharger to the existing engine, but received a completely new power unit . We have more information for you.

Like the RXC , the derived RXC Turbo is a street-legal racing special in its own way. The design and aerodynamics have not changed fundamentally since the initial version, so the car remains visually similar to the LMP endurance specials. The official exhibition premiere took place a few days ago at Autosport International . 20 units of the basic RXC have already been sold since last year, and the order books are full for the next four months . With such interest, the introduction of the more powerful RXC Turbo is a logical step.

The basis of the car is a high-strength carbon-steel tubular frame , on which the composite body panels are mounted; some of them can be replaced with carbon parts for an additional fee. Part of the aerodynamic elements is also an adjustable rear wing according to the specifications of the GT3 class . The car can develop a downforce of up to 900 kilograms during fast driving, which is roughly equal to its weight of 940 kg . The dimensions of the RXC Turbo are 4,300 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,127 mm in height. The chassis consists of a custom Intrax Racing Suspension with adjustable shocks, pushrods and double wishbones at all corners of the body. The brake system uses four floating disc brakes with six-piston calipers and disc diameters of 330 millimeters at the front and 310 mm at the rear, a carbon-ceramic version is available for an additional charge. The wheels are attached with a central nut and measure 17 inches , with race and road specification tires supplied by Dunlop .

The main change from the RXC in the RXC Turbo is primarily the power unit. While the former uses an atmospheric 3.7-liter V6 from Ford , the novelty received a newer 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost from the same automaker. The unit has two small turbos capable of spinning up to 248,000 revolutions per minute. Furthermore, the EcoBoost features direct injection, Ti-VCT dual independent camshaft timing and a cooling system from Radical . An interesting feature is the fulfillment of the Euro 5 ecological standard and a service interval of up to 10,000 kilometers. The engine has been specially modified directly in collaboration with Ford engineers, who provide Radical with technical support in this area.

The transmission is a custom transverse seven-speed from Quaife , and the driver changes gears using paddles under the steering wheel. The rear wheels are driven, with the RXC Turbo rated at 460bhp at 6,000rpm and 678Nm of torque at 3,600rpm . The result is a power/weight ratio of roughly 490 horsepower per ton . Acceleration from 0 to 96 km/h is a matter of 2.6 seconds and the maximum speed is 298 km/h . With these capabilities, the standard installation of traction control is a matter of course.

The interior has also been slightly tweaked compared to the RXC , with bespoke Corbeau seats with FIA-compliant six-point seatbelts as the foundation. Not only the multifunctional steering wheel with power steering, but also the pedals are fully adjustable. The equipment includes a heated windshield with one wiper, an air conditioning unit and an instrument panel consisting of an LCD display that displays driving data and engine information. For an additional fee, a more sophisticated system displaying more data is also available, or AiM SmartyCam with video output, which displays current data on congestion, speed and more in real time. The future owner can install better sound insulation, carpets and seat covers and dashboards made of leather or Alcantara (or a combination thereof).

The official price should be around 129,000 pounds including VAT , which translates to 4.23 million crowns. That's roughly £21,500 (CZK 705,000) more than Radical is asking for the base RXC .
