The prototype of the new Honda NSX drove around the Mid-Ohio circuit

The Honda NSX prototype was unveiled on August 5 with a 2.4-mile demonstration lap at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. It came shortly before the start of the Honda Indy 200 and the event aimed to show spectators the progress being made towards the introduction of Honda's next-generation mid-engined super sports car, which is scheduled for 2015 .

Ted Klaus , Senior Engineer, Honda R&D Americas, Inc. he added: “Given the excellence of our R&D and manufacturing workforce, we're right here in Ohio developing a next-generation sports car that's equally at home on the road as it is on the racetrack. It is therefore natural that the prototype was presented at the Mid-Ohio circuit. It is a great pleasure for us to see the prototype driving on the track, as it is a significant step on the way to the final version of the NSX model, whose world premiere is scheduled for 2015 . We believe this car will bring a completely new sports car driving experience to customers around the world.”

In order to combine the dynamic capabilities of a new generation supersport with favorable environmental parameters, the new NSX model will be powered by a mid-mounted V6 engine with direct fuel injection, which will be coupled with the Honda Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) hybrid system. The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® is an all-new high-performance hybrid system that combines all-wheel drive with torque distribution and the low consumption of a hybrid system consisting of three electric motors – one integrated into the V6 internal combustion engine and connected to a new dual-clutch DCT transmission that drives the rear wheels, and two motors driving the front wheels. When cornering, the system ensures continuously available negative or positive torque on the front wheels, achieving a new level of driving performance that cannot be matched by existing all-wheel drive systems.

Global development of the NSX is led by Honda R&D Americas, Inc. in Raymond, Ohio. The next-generation sports car will be produced in the nearby city of Marysville (Ohio), where a new state-of-the-art production center is currently under construction. In the production of the car, parts of local production as well as components from other plants of the brand located in other countries will be used.
