The Porsche 918 Spyder ran amok on the Nordschleife

The newest supercar from the workshops of the German car manufacturer Porsche , the 918 Spyder model , the concept of which we could already admire two years ago at the Geneva Motor Show and which will go on sale in September 2013, has been going through a phase of demanding testing for many months. The result, which will certainly please all future owners of this beauty, is a lap time of 7 minutes and 14 seconds on the famous North Loop of the legendary Nürburgring circuit .

This great time is due to a brave race pilot with no nerves and, strangely enough, completely ordinary Michelin road tires. So no racing slicks, as is customary. However, it was not a completely standard 918 Spyder . This version features better brakes, six-point seat belts and a lower curb weight than the regular one. Most likely, some elements of comfort equipment such as air conditioning, audio system or multifunctional touch screen have also disappeared from the car.

This attractive super sports car with a price tag of 645,000 euros without taxes is powered by a 4.6-liter forked eight-cylinder with a pair of electric motors. The first with a power of 122 hp is connected to the drive unit through a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission, the second with a power of 109 hp is directly connected to the wheels of the front axle. All in all, 566 kW (759 hp) and 750 Nm of torque will reach the road, which can be increased for a short time by activating the overboost up to 950 Nm. Thanks to these numbers, the Porsche 918 Spyder can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in less than three seconds, with a top speed of 325 km/h. And why is a good pair of electric motors under the hood? In addition to enhancing the performance of the entire hybrid system, it ensures incredibly low combined consumption – 3 l/100km. Although consumption on the Nordschleife was certainly a drop higher.
