Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S – Quads are back!

The Porsche 911 is as iconic as the Queen of England, a Breitling watch or the North Loop of the Nürburgring . After last year's presentation of the brand new 991 series, we also saw versions with four-wheel drive.

From now on, the Porsche 991 Carrera S and 4S will be available in both coupé and convertible body styles. All variants have the same PTM (Porsche Traction Management) all-wheel drive system, and compared to versions with rear-axle drive only, we can find extended rear fenders and 10 millimeter wider tires.

The basis is the Carrera 4 version with a standard seven-speed manual transmission. Those who want to dig deeper into their pockets can pay extra for the PDK dual-clutch automatic. The drive unit here is represented by a flat six-cylinder with a volume of 3.4 liters, a maximum power of 257 kW and a torque of 390 Nm. The coupe version can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, the cabriolet reaches the same goal 0.2 seconds later. The maximum speed is the same for both versions – 282 km/h.

Although the base Carrera 4 has more power than the previous generation 997 , it guzzles less gas. The manufacturer indicates a combined consumption of 8.6-8.7 l/100 km for both bodies. Such excellent values were indelibly marked by the lower weight of the car. Compared to the previous generation, I registered a noticeable loss of 65 kilograms.

Until we get the Turbo version, it will hold the title of the best 911 version of the 4S . The flat six-cylinder with a volume of 3.8 liters produces 295 kW and 440 Nm of torque, which is easily enough to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds (the cabriolet is again 0.2 seconds slower). The maximum speed attacks the 300 km/h mark, while the car with the PDK transmission claims an average of 9.1 liters.

The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S will be presented live for the first time at the upcoming Paris Motor Show . Sales on the European market will start this year. Of course, prices are also related to sales, which are no longer as friendly as performance and fuel consumption values. The weaker Carrera 4 version costs at least 97,550 euros, the cabriolet will be offered from 110,290 euros. Customers will pay from 112,313 euros for the stronger Carrera 4S version, while the convertible will be 8,000 euros more expensive. However, having experienced the previous generation Porsche 911 , I know that the car is worth every euro of its price!
