German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has announced the prices of the fantastic SL model for the UK market. The British can expect a hot new product in showrooms from the end of June, and as it was clear from the beginning, it will not be available for a pittance.
As here, in Britain the new SL will initially be available with two petrol engines. The weaker six-cylinder with the numerical designation 350 starts at 72,495 pounds, but for this price you can expect a luxuriously equipped and powerful missile. The atmospheric drive unit with a volume of 3.5 liters will offer 225 kW of power and 370 Nm of torque, which is more than enough to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Recognize for yourself whether it is necessary to pay extra and thus push these limits even further. However, the advantage of this engine is not only excellent performance parameters, but also acceptable fuel consumption. In normal operation, the SL 350 gets by with less than 7 liters of gasoline.
The excellent fuel consumption and emissions figures are due to two important factors. One of them is the use of an aluminum self-supporting body, which is 110 kilograms lighter than the previous steel one. As a result, the new SL is approximately the same weight as its E-class sibling in the version with a canvas roof. The second factor is the now-essential Stop/Start system, which is available for both engines.
True connoisseurs will reach for the most powerful version for now, labeled SL 500 and priced from £83,445. Under the hood, there is a turbocharged 4.7 liter eight-cylinder, which provides the car with 320 kW of power. A torque of 700 Nm is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission 7G-Tronic Plus . The value of acceleration from 0-100 km/h decreased to 4.6 seconds, which is already the territory of the Porsche 911 Cabrio . The manufacturer states that fuel consumption has been reduced by 22% compared to the previous model.
