Mercedes presented the most powerful version of the S-Class to date

Mercedes presented the most powerful version in the range of its top model S. This, of course, comes from the AMG workshops and is lighter, more powerful and faster than its predecessor.

The basis of the success of the new S63 AMG is the weight, which is 100 kg lower than that of its predecessor. The Stuttgart-based carmaker achieved a significant weight loss mainly by using lithium-ion batteries (-20 kg), lighter brakes and wheels, aluminum body parts or a carbon spare wheel holder. The resulting weight of the model with a short wheelbase is 1970 kg, the model with a longer wheelbase weighs 1995 kg.

A strengthened, twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter eight-cylinder will struggle with such weight. The new AMG has an output of 585 hp (+41 hp) at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 900 Nm between 2,250 – 3,750 rpm. The engine cooperates with the AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed automatic, thanks to which the model with short and long wheelbase and rear-wheel drive can accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, and the model with long wheelbase and all-wheel drive even in exactly 4 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 250 km/h in all cases.

Nowadays, the environment was also thought of. The engine complies with the Euro 6 emission standard and claims only 10 l/100 km or 10.3 L/100 with all-wheel drive. 237 g of CO2 per 1 km in the case of a rear wheel and 242 g in the case of a quad bike.

An interesting item is the chassis of the rear-wheel drive model. It uses the services of the Magic Body Control system, which cooperates with the camera installed in the windshield. It scans the road surface in front of the vehicle and can adjust the chassis characteristics before the car enters the road. The all-wheel-drive version will instead offer "conventional" adaptive dampers .

In terms of appearance, the novelty is not wild, but rather a slightly beautified elegance. There are more aggressive bumpers and nineteen-inch wheels. The exhaust with four tailpipes is then a separate chapter. Passengers inside are pampered by first-class leather, massaging seats or the Burmester audio system. Carbon-ceramic brakes with a disc diameter of 420 mm can be obtained for an additional fee.

The basic price for the shorter variant in Germany is 149,880 euros (approx. 3,891,000 CZK).
