Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Final Edition – The final goodbye

In serial form, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was first presented in 2009, and sales began right from the following year. From the very beginning, the car collected various awards, trophies on race tracks and admiration on ordinary roads. Because of this, the production of the model needs to be ended in style, which is why the Final Edition was created.

The SLS AMG model is the first car to be completely developed by the AMG company belonging to the parent company Mercedes-Benz . Officially, the manufacturer does not comment on the end of the model's career, but according to behind-the-scenes information, a drop in sales is to blame. The original enthusiasm and bulk orders gradually cooled down and the car company was said to not be getting enough customers.

The SLS AMG GT Final Edition celebrated its world premiere at two auto shows at the same time, specifically in Tokyo and Los Angeles. The basis is the classic version of the model with elements from the brutal Black Series and the circuit GT3 "45th Anniversary" . The front bumper lip is made of carbon , as is the hood with a central air outlet. This not only removes warm air from the engine, but also increases the pressure on the front axle. Carbon fibers can also be found on the pressure wing on the trunk lid and, to a lesser extent, in the diffuser of the rear bumper.

The chassis of the car is equipped with AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically adjustable shock absorbers . The optional modes naturally include Sport and Sport Plus . The brake calipers are painted red, which contrasts with the black or silver AMG wheels. They can optionally (at no extra charge) wear specially developed Cup tires from Dunlop . Their full name is Sport Maxx Race and the dimensions are 265/35 R19 on the front axle and 295/30 R20 on the rear.

Under the hood of the Final Edition is the same atmospheric V8 with a volume of 6.3 liters . The manufacturer gives the power as 591 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and a torque of 650 Nm at 4,750 rpm . Acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h is a matter of 3.7 seconds and the speedometer needle reaches 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds . The maximum speed is electronically limited to 320 km/h . The installed transmission is the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT dual-clutch system with seven stages, the option of manual shifting, four programs and the RACE START mode.

During the modifications, the interior was also not forgotten, where luxurious leather with a diamond pattern was used on the sports seats, center console and doors. Contrast stitching is silver to match the seat belts. The dashboard is inlaid with carbon fiber decor as standard. The steering wheel was dressed in Alcantara and got details from shiny black metal, which is also located around the ventilation outlets. So that the customer does not forget that he is sitting in a special SLS AMG GT , a plaque with the inscription "AMG Final Edition – 1 of 350" appeared on the center console.

And the number 350 is not accidental, because the Final Edition will only be created in the corresponding number of pieces and then the production of the SLS AMG GT model will be completely finished. The final edition will hit the markets in March 2014 and prices in Germany will start at 225,505 euros ( approx. CZK 6,380,000 incl. VAT).
