Mercedes-Benz S-Class officially revealed! Information, Czech prices

After long vicissitudes with leaked photos, the Mercedes-Benz car company finally officially revealed the appearance of the new S-class yesterday. The car company's flagship was presented at the Airbus factory in Hamburg. It is bigger, more luxurious, more economical and will appear on the market before the beginning of summer.

Car companies cannot afford design fads and very extensive body shape changes in the luxury premium segment. The design of the new Mercedes S-Class is therefore only evolutionary. The limousine will be offered in two length variants. The car with a shorter wheelbase is 5116 mm long, 1899 mm wide and 1496 mm high. The L version has a 130 millimeter longer wheelbase, and the overall length of the body has also increased accordingly. Considering that the new CLA-class with a drag coefficient of 0.23 is a record holder, I consider the S-class with a drag coefficient of 0.24 to be respectable.

They say that if you want to see what equipment every family car will be available in 20 years' time, drive an Esk . On board the car, the best materials , which are currently available, rule. There is also luxurious wood, aluminum paneling and details in the form of contrasting stitching. The S-Class also boasts a large 12.3-inch TFT display , which is a sort of answer to the multimedia system of the facelifted Lexus LS. Even the instrument cluster is digital. Standard audio has 10 speakers. However, for an additional fee, you can treat yourself to the Burmester system with surround sound.

The interior design does not disturb at all. The center console with analog clock looks great, as does the large center tunnel. However, the biggest terno is the ambient lighting! In contrast to all this is the luxurious, inlaid multifunction steering wheel . Mercedes designers probably borrowed its shapes from the Kia Picanto

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be available with diesel, petrol and hybrid powertrains. The basis is a three-liter six-cylinder diesel with the designation 350 BlueTEC . It has a maximum output of 190 kW at 3,600 rpm and a torque of 620 Nm (1,600 – 2,400 rpm). Like all versions, the engine works with a seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission. The S-Class with this engine accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, and the manufacturer claims that it swallows an average of only 5.9 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers . The base price of the car was set at 2,093,300 CZK.

Another variant is the S 400 HYBRID version. The powertrain combines a 3.5-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor. The maximum output is 225 kW at 6500 rpm and the average fuel consumption is only 6.8 l/100 km . Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes the same time as the diesel version (6.8 seconds). Mercedes values the new S-class hybrid at CZK 2,232,450.

The last variant is the good old five hundred . Under the hood, it has a forked eight-cylinder with a volume of 4663 cc and an output of 335 kW . A torque of 700 Nm is available from 1800 to 3500 rpm. The average consumption of the car is 9.1 l/100 km , but the acceleration from 0-100 km is much more interesting. The S 500 can do it in 4.8 seconds. The base price of the top variant was set at 2,734,600 crowns.

According to technical data, the extended wheelbase does not affect driving dynamics and fuel consumption. However, the 130 millimeters of length is reflected in the basic prices of the individual variants. The 350 BlueTEC L version is CZK 145,200 more expensive than the standard car, the price difference for the S 400 HYBRID L version is even CZK 157,300. The best is the eight-cylinder S 500 L, where the price is 96,800 CZK higher.

Those who wait until next year can look forward to versions with 4Matic all-wheel drive or the miraculous S 500 Plug-in HYBRID , which should achieve a combined consumption of around three liters of gasoline per 100 km.
