A naturally aspirated engine is a rarity today. All the more, we, the customers and enthusiasts, have to pamper the pair of lone fighters in the Mercedes range , who still offer an atmospheric eight-cylinder – the supersport SLS AMG and the sporty C63 AMG . And the latter comes in a special series.
This should help customers decide between it, the new RS4 from Audi and the outgoing M3 from BMW . And to give the interested party a little push, Mercedes threw in an extra 50 horsepower for the new "Edition 507" version!
In total, the 6.2 V8 engine can handle 507 of them, as it says in the name of the car. The Stugartt automaker achieved this quite simply – they used forged pistons from the more powerful SLS AMG, installed a new connecting rod, a lighter crankshaft and modified the engine management system.
The result of these modifications is not only higher power, but also greater torque (610 Nm), better acceleration (0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds) and a better top speed (electronically limited to 280 km/h). The interesting thing is that the Edition 507 is only 10 hp and 10 Nm weaker than the top version of the AMG Black Series .
Compared to it, however, it has one significant advantage – it is offered not only as a coupe , but also as a station wagon and a sedan . All three versions differ from the classic C63 AMG by a special matte color, with which the details in glossy black contrast, as well as darkened lights, an aluminum hood and 19-inch wheels.
These transmit power to the rear wheels through a 7-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission, the head of which can (as well as the entire interior) be upholstered with Alcantara. The world premiere will take place at the beginning of March in Geneva , then sales will start in Germany at the beginning of the summer.
