McLaren is showing a lighter and faster version of the 650S in Geneva

In 1997, the successful McLaren F1 GTR Longtail hit the race track. The word Longtail refers to the extended rear section , but despite this, the coupe was more than 100 kg lighter compared to the classic GTR. The same recipe with a longer rear part, but a lighter construction, was used by the British car manufacturer again almost twenty years later to bring the McLaren 675LT to the world, and as you correctly guessed, the abbreviation LT came from the word Longtail.

The 650S coupe introduced last year became the starting model for the construction of the most circuit -oriented model of the Super Series . McLaren left out the roadster for this time. In a direct comparison with the 650S, not only the body extended to 4546 mm and reduced to 1188 mm, but also its more aggressive styling stands out. It all starts with a redesigned front bumper with side wings and a carbon splitter , which leads to increased downforce on the front axle. The door sill extensions with smaller air intakes are also made of carbon, followed by more prominently shaped side air intakes in front of the rear wheels. The rear wing is half the size of the 650S and, thanks to the carbon structure, it is also slightly lighter. Ear-pleasing sounds will be emitted by two titanium tailpipes . The air pressure from the rear wheels is diverted by a redesigned carbon bumper with an integrated diffuser made of the same material.

All those carbon parts have a common denominator – lower weight , even by more than 100 kg compared to the McLaren 650S. There's not even air conditioning in the base trim (but it comes at no extra charge), the leather and Alcantara seats have a carbon fiber structure and their shape is derived from those in the P1 hypersport . Thanks to all the modifications, the dry weight dropped to 1230 kg , its distribution is almost ideal in the ratio of 42.5:57.5. Although there is still a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder engine under the hood, up to half of the components have been replaced. The maximum power thus rose to 675 hp at 7100 rpm and the torque to 700 Nm between 5500 – 6500 rpm, which in combination with the seven-speed SSG transmission is enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds (- 0.1 seconds), from 0 to 200 km/h in 7.9 seconds (- 0.5 seconds) and a maximum speed of 330 km/h. The power-to-weight ratio improved to 549 horsepower per ton .

The McLaren 675LT will be available in five unique "By McLaren" combinations , four of which remain exclusively for him. These are the red Delta, the white Silica, the green Napier and the gray Chicane. The orange historical shade of McLaren appeared, for example, already on the P1 hypersport. The colors of the interior go hand in hand with the shades of the body, the materials of which were carefully selected according to the press release. We will stay with the cabin for a while, because compared to the 650S model, it lacks controls for the already mentioned air conditioning. They are newly integrated into the standard multimedia system with a touch screen. So that you don't forget which car you are sitting in, there is a "675LT" badge on each headrest and instrument panel.
