McLaren MP4-12C Spider can handle 328 km/h

The brand new McLaren MP4-12C Spider is capable of going up to 315 km/h. You can admire it in the newly released official photos, and we can assure you that the Spider model is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h as fast as its older sibling, the MP4-12C coupe, in 3.1 seconds.
The MP4-12C Spider has a two-piece removable roof that slides into the space behind the seats. Thanks to the compact design of the roof storage, it was possible to keep the glass cover over the engine and enjoy the view just like the coupe. The roof can be extended and folded in 17 seconds, with a single button on the center panel controlling the process at speeds up to 30 km/h. The rear glass window between the arches can be operated independently of the position of the roof and can therefore serve as protection against the wind or also for ventilation in the case of a closed roof. McLaren supplies two trunks with the car, which are custom-designed to fit into the 52-litre boot.
The twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine delivers 460 kW (625 hp)/7500 min-1 and its torque peaks at 600 Nm between 3000-7000 rpm. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters under the steering wheel transfers it to the rear wheels. The Spider reaches 100 km/h as quickly as the coupe (3.1 seconds), but from 0 to 200 km/h the coupe has the upper hand. It reaches 200 km/h 2 tenths faster than the Spider model (in 8.8 seconds). The maximum speed in the up position without is 315 km/h, with the roof up to 328 km/h can be reached.
The Spider also shares a Monocell carbon tub with the coupe, which is so stiff that no extra intervention was necessary to increase stiffness. The chassis of both the Spider and the coupe are also completely identical. The protective arches of course fulfill the role of rollover protection. Other modifications related to the audio system and air conditioning. Both needed to be modified to accommodate the position of the roof.
The MP4-12C Spider can be ordered today for £195,500, a £19,500 increase over the coupe version. The first orders, which you can place now, will be implemented in November.
