McLaren and Honda to work together!

This year, the British McLaren and the Japanese Honda concluded an agreement to cooperate on Formula 1 single-seaters. However, it could also be extended to road cars in the following years, which would benefit both car companies.

On May 16 of this year, Honda announced the decision to work with McLaren on single-seater Formula 1 , with the jointly developed car to be fielded in the 2015 season. McLaren CEO Martin Whitmarsh hinted that the collaboration might be extended to road cars as well.

Whitmarsh said that McLaren currently has no partner for the development of a road-going sports car, and that Honda would be an ideal partner. After all, it is said that the Japanese manufacturer is already using the 12C model as a reference vehicle in the development of its own NSX supersport.

However, we will have to wait a few years before we see jointly developed cars. McLaren currently sells the self-developed 12C model, as well as the hybrid P1 . The British brand is currently working on the P13 model, which would compete with the Porsche 911 and that too without a partner. Honda is in a similar situation – it is preparing the new NSX itself.

Both brands are open to possible cooperation on road cars, but the resulting products will not reach the markets for several years. However, we are looking forward to them now. And what about you?
