Information about the new generation Mercedes GL63 AMG

It's not even two months since the new generation of the giant Mercedes-Benz GL SUV was presented to us at the International Auto Show in New York, and we already have its top version, the 63 AMG.

And we'll start with the most important thing – the drive unit. Under the hood is a forked eight-cylinder engine with a displacement of 5.5 liters supercharged by a pair of turbochargers, thanks to which it produces a maximum output of 410 kW (557 hp) and 760 Nm of torque. This more than decent portion of power is sent to the wheels via the AMG SPEEDSHIFT Plus 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission with automatic deactivation of the dual-clutch mode when shifting down. These figures mean that even an SUV as heavy as the GL undoubtedly is, can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in an incredible 4.9 seconds. The maximum speed is then electronically limited to 250 km/h due to the weight and size of the car.

This rocket also differs from a regular SUV with an optical package that includes 21-inch alloy wheels, a glossy black grille, a front bumper with enlarged air intakes and LED daytime running lights. We can also see sill extensions, decently pulled out fenders and, above all, a diffuser with a pair of tailpipes of the dual sports exhaust system.

The first production units of the GL 63 AMG should roll off the production line in November of this year for an as yet unspecified price.
