A year after the premiere of the seventh generation Chevrolet Corvette , we saw the first more powerful variant with a factory warranty. This is, as usual, the Z06 model , which according to Chevrolet will be faster than the ZR1 model with the optional Z07 package .
The main point of interest of the new Z06 is certainly the engine. The 6.2-liter eight-cylinder LT4 doped with a 1.7-liter Eaton R1740 TVS compressor has a power of 634 horsepower and a maximum torque peaking at 861 Nm. To comply with emission limits, the unit is equipped with direct fuel injection and a system for shutting down up to half of the cylinders. Power is transmitted to the road by a standard seven-speed manual transmission , which can be replaced by an eight -speed automatic transmission upon request.
The basis of the car is an aluminum frame originally from the C7.R racing model, which is accompanied by a body extended by 56 mm at the front and by 80 mm at the rear. To emphasize the width of the body, the rear lights have been moved further apart. As the first Z06 in history, the novelty has a removable roof panel , which will allow at least a partial feeling of driving with the sky above your head.
From the outside, you can recognize the Z06 not only thanks to the extended body and larger nineteen-inch wheels with 285/30 R19 tires at the front and twenty-inch wheels with 335/25 ZR 20 tires, but also thanks to a number of aerodynamic accessories . Inside, a unique color scheme awaits, a flattened steering wheel and the option of choosing from a pair of seats – more comfortably oriented GT seats and sporty Competition Sport seats.
Three packages take care of the aerodynamics of the Z06 – the first adds a front splitter, a rear spoiler and channels in the front undercarriages. The carbon package consists of winglets, carbon body parts and a larger wing. The most ultimate is the Z07 package , which will increase downforce, add stickier Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires, and carbon-ceramic discs from Brembo will replace the classic brakes. Chevrolet claims that the car equipped with the Z07 package, which is currently still in development, can beat the top version of the previous Corvette, the ZR1 , on the track.
