BMW showed a possible successor to the 7 Series

BMW Vision Future Luxury is an example of how the BMW Group envisions a modern concept of luxury in the long term. It is an advanced design combination of exclusivity and innovation, which is created for an exceptional driving experience connecting emotions and uniqueness . All this is embodied in the design of the body and the interior design of the BMW Vision Future Luxury concept, as well as in its advanced technologies.

"The BMW Vision Future Luxury design is the messenger of our philosophy of modern luxury, in which advanced technologies play a major and irreplaceable role. These innovations give a new look to the multi-layered luxury experience, which is based on an intelligent lightweight structure, a modern interior and a radically new user interface," explains the design approach to BMW Vision Future Luxury Karim Habib , chief designer of the BMW brand.

This approach is also clearly visible inside, where shapes and the functionality of the most modern technologies are combined in a unique way. For example, the intelligent weight reduction approach is evident in the interior on the design principle of subtractive modeling. This consists in the fact that the shape and function of the individual components are created from one composite structure , composed of several layers and materials. The basic layer is a carbon composite, on which is situated a functional layer with control components, displays and different types of lighting. This is followed by a structural layer providing additional strength , which is made of aluminum. And finally, on the surface there is a layer consisting of wood or leather, which creates a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. In individual places of the interior, this structure is "sanded" to the layer and material required for a certain function – hence the subtractive (subtraction) modeling. Thanks to the fact that the interior design is always designed with an emphasis on the essence, there is an overall weight saving. At the same time, this approach creates the impression of seamless transitions of individual units , and thus also elegant and flowing surfaces.

In this comprehensive approach to weight reduction , the properties of carbon composites, which are used in conjunction with other materials, are used to an inimitable extent. The basic structure made of carbon composites is visible, for example, on the doors, under the seats and especially also in the area of the B-pillar , which, unlike in the past, is almost completely absent. The carbon composite construction allowed the seat frames to be integrated into the supporting structure of the body. There are also braces in the side sills, as well as the center console, so only a really minimal B-pillar could have been used. Without this new B-pillar solution based on the use of carbon composites, it would not have been possible to design the opposite opening doors of the BMW Vision Future Luxury concept .

In the space for the driver and his passengers, precisely guided lines and carefully designed surfaces create an impression of exclusive dynamics. The shape of the instrument panel literally surrounds the display itself , which is its main part. The driver is surrounded by a total of three displays, the arrangement of which creates a typical BMW focus of the interior on the driver. The three-dimensional display technology creates an effect where the displayed data can be seen deep into the display itself , which is not only pleasing to the eyes, but at the same time, this way creates a unique impression of depth and spaciousness.

The left display mainly shows information about the car itself, in the middle is a programmable display that provides information about speed , engine speed and other data of this type, as well as various current notifications that are needed for the given moment. The right-hand display – the Driver's Information Display – displays additional data of the information, entertainment and communication system. In addition, all these functions can be controlled by the driver by voice.

The primary display for "analog contact" with the car is the BMW Vision Head Up Display , which supplements the driver's view with additional information directly in his field of vision and in the corresponding location of the real image in front of the car. Buildings, traffic signs or various hazards can be highlighted directly in the real environment, thus quite naturally redirecting the driver's attention to what is relevant at the given moment . It is this technology that creates a completely new form of assistance systems. For example, the speed limit indicator will show the current speed limit directly in the real environment, or the Traffic Light Assistant can display information about switching traffic lights in their vicinity.

The BMW Vision Future Luxury is equipped with a display located directly in front of and intended for the passenger, instead of the central control display that is common today, shared by the driver and passenger. This display is linked to the Driver Information Display and the information between these displays can be changed using gestures on the touchscreen. The display intended for the passenger can show, for example, information about booking tickets to the opera, which can be done directly from the car using the Concierge Service Luxury Information Service from BMW ConnectedDrive . This solution does not disturb the driver. Many car functions can be conveniently controlled from the passenger seat using the iDrive Touch .

In the rear of the BMW Vision Future Luxury, a large display is placed in front of each of the passengers in a frame made of carbon composites . They are controlled via a tablet placed in the central tunnel. The entire system is connected to the front part of the car and services from the BMW ConnectedDrive program can also be operated from it. In a simple and comprehensible form, you can, for example, track your driving speed, possibly the time of arrival at your destination, or use the Concierge Services Luxury information service. Of course, it is also possible to use Online entertainment and work with audiovisual content shared over the Internet, or play games.

For passengers in the rear, the BMW Vision Future Luxury is ready to provide literally pampering personal space . Separate, distinctly shaped seats separate passengers from each other and give them the feeling of an undisturbed personal zone. This impression is created not only by the folding tables, but also by the displays located on the fixed backs of the front seats, which separate each of the rear seats from the others. This feeling is further enhanced by the design of the rear part of the interior, which makes extensive use of three-dimensional surfaces and details . The whole is completed by light sources placed in wooden elements, which underline the whole solution and give it a very modern look. The exceptional quality of the interior design is also evident from the highest quality aniline leather in Batavia brown , complemented by lighter shades of Silk shade and Silk nubuk . All of this goes perfectly with the fine linden wood. The chosen color scheme, which consists of darker shades used in the upper layers and lighter tones applied to the exposed areas of the lower layers, helps to create a luxurious, yet pleasant atmosphere.

The exclusivity of the BMW Vision Future Luxury is clearly visible from the side view, where the balanced proportions with extraordinary elegance impress. Typical features are a long wheelbase, short overhangs of the body and at the same time a low roofline of the crew compartment. Also typical of the BMW brand is the clearly guided side line below the lower edge of the side windows, which "tensions" the car in a unique way. Underneath it, opulently shaped sides with accentuated fenders, gently hugging the wheels, are used. These shapes are designed by human hands and are characterized by an emotional charge that could not be achieved using computer modeling alone. The shapes are also emphasized by the special Liquid Platinum Bronze body paint with a pleasant shine. An interesting feature of the design are the exterior mirrors, which look as if they grow organically from the chrome frame of the side windows.

The body design of the BMW Vision Future Luxury shows not only advanced solutions in the field of aerodynamics , but also intelligent weight reduction. The smoothly sloping roof line itself, gently transitioning into the luggage compartment lid, contributes to ideal aerodynamic properties. The body of the body is also another important element that reduces aerodynamic resistance , however individual solutions, thought out to the smallest detail, also have a significant influence. These mainly include the air vents behind the front wheels, the C-pillars designed for optimal flow, or the openings in the rear bumper that remove air from the area of the rear wheel arches. The elegant strip of carbon composites on the side sills shows in an unobtrusive way that the main materials reducing the weight of the BMW Vision Future Luxury are precisely carbon composites and aluminum. These materials are used in the car in a targeted manner in the places where their application has the greatest effect – they are used both separately and in conjunction with each other.

The unmistakable identity of the BMW Vision Future Luxury is given by the typical BMW radiator grille with a pair of dominant kidney grilles. The entire front part of the concept is characterized by very clean and simple shapes. The headlights with minimized dimensions are based on BMW Laserlight laser headlight technology, which not only requires a small area for light projection, but at the same time sets completely new standards for the brightness of the emitted light, afterglow and intensity. Their concentrated, parallel oriented light beams emit up to ten times more intense light than LED systems . Minimal installation dimensions and lower energy consumption also pave the way for laser headlights to be used in the future.

An elegant expression is also given to the front part by the solution of its lower part, which uses a combination of different materials and unusual shaping for a very special appearance. At the edges, in the lower part of the front bumper, there are special vents that are part of the BMW EfficientDynamics approach . They are made of carbon composites, so they can be very thin and light. The BMW Vision Future Luxury aerodynamic solution also optically emphasizes the chrome strip on the air flow regulating surfaces.

The horizontally guided lines of the sides of the BMW Vision Future Luxury concept smoothly transition to its rear. Similar to the front, innovative technologies have made it possible to create a completely specific unit. For the very first time, BMW used organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) here, which allowed the emergence of a completely new concept for BMW's typical L-shaped rear lamps. They use a large number of OLEDs , shaped precisely in the letter L.
