Bentley Mulsanne Convertible – There will be no big convertible!

In the past months of this year, there was often talk about the arrival of an open version of the Bentley Mulsanne luxury sedan. Although the model under consideration was already built as a concept and presented to potential buyers, the automaker ultimately decided to end the project.

The Bentley Mulsanne Convertible concept was privately shown to potential buyers at last year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance . Us mere mortals were only shown the official sketches , which you can find in the gallery below the article.

However, at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show, Bentley CEO Wolfgang Schreiber told Car and Drive r magazine that a production version of the open- top Mulsanne is not expected. The reason is low customer demand for a similar car. Sales of the car would be successful only in the USA or selected regions of Europe, which would mean a maximum of a few hundred cars sold, and that is not enough for Bentley .

Schreiber did not say more, but a certain reason for not introducing the Mulsanne Convertible is the need to direct all the funds into the development of the brand's planned first SUV , which should appear in 2016. Bentley expects a several times higher sales volume for it.
