Audi showed a new concept in Frankfurt

Current car shows suffer from one major shortcoming – in the age of the Internet, all important news are presented before the official press conferences , so the average fan practically has nothing to be surprised about. Fortunately, there are always a few cars that surprise, even shock. One of these is the Audi Nanuk Quattro concept, which only representatives of the brand knew about until the last moment.

I'll leave it up to you if it's good or bad. I personally do not like the design of the model, which also very much copies the Geneva study Italdesign Giugiaro Parcour . The coupe fashion with raised chassis and big wheels somehow passed me by. Anyway, the Nanuk is built around the aluminum Audi Space Frame , the individual body parts are made of carbon-reinforced polymers. The mentioned wheels have a size of 22 inches , and the red shade Extreme Red ensures a dynamic appearance. Behind the huge wheels, you would find carbon-ceramic brake discs.

From the press release, it can be seen that the most important elements of the cabin are the alarm clocks and a pair of electrically controlled seats. Control of the air suspension or navigation is concentrated on the steering wheel or the center console. Elements made of carbon, aluminum and CFRP (carbon-reinforced polymers) must not be missing. The seats, door panels and armrests are upholstered in fine gray leather , instead of mirrors there are two small monitors in the A-pillar area that display the situation around the car.

Popsicle is a real piece of car – it is 4541 mm long , 1990 mm wide, but only 1337 mm high. The wheelbase has a value of 2710 mm. Even if Audi tried, the 'coupe' weighs a massive 1900kg .

This weight is taken care of by a TDI ten-cylinder diesel engine with two turbochargers with an output of 544 hp and a maximum torque of 1000 Nm at 1500 rpm. In combination with all-wheel drive and the S tronic automatic , Nanuk can accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 305 km/h. At these values, the stated consumption of 7.8 l/100 km seems highly unrealistic.

A specialty of the concept Audi is an adaptive air suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers. Thanks to the air suspension, the driver can adjust the ground clearance from 30 mm (low mode) to 40 mm (extreme mode). In some cases, this work is done by electronics for the driver, which applies, for example, when driving on the highway.

The chassis also has other specifics. At low speeds, the rear wheels can turn up to 9° against the direction of the front wheels , which results in a virtual reduction of the wheelbase by about 100 cm and thus better maneuverability. At higher speeds, on the other hand, the rear wheels can turn up to 2.5° in the direction of the front wheels , which results in a relative extension of the wheelbase of up to 140 cm. This again results in better maneuverability.
