Alfa Romeo – Giulia still in development, flagship only with Maserati

The Italian brand Alfa Romeo currently has nothing to offer and is losing considerably compared to the competition. Hope is dawning after the recently revealed production plan published by FIAT CEO Sergio Marchionne. The fundamental thing for Alfa Romeo is the renewal of the middle class segment, where the new model Giulia – the successor of the 159 – is going.

Marchionne acknowledged that the Giulia was late, but he said it was justified. He did not want to put into production something that was not, in his words, perfect and suitable for the brand. It is currently still under development, after which it will be manufactured in Italy and sold worldwide. Behind the scenes at the automaker, there is also talk of a large rear-wheel drive sedan , a successor if you will to the 166. If the flagship development were to be confirmed, the platform would no doubt be taken from the planned Maserati Ghibli . Alfa Romeo even wants to produce a new model in Turin together with the car company with the trident in its emblem.

The CEO of the concern refused to confirm that they are working on an SUV. However, he assured that if something like this were to be agreed upon, it would be sufficiently spacious and also produced in his native Italy. At the end, Sergio Marchionne answered why he does not want to sell Alfa Romeo . His literal answer is: “Simply because there are certain things that are not for sale. If you went to the chairman of Volkswagen , Ferdinand Piëch, and asked him about the sale of the Audi brand, he would also say that it is not for sale. In short, I have no interest in selling Alfa Romeo . Dot!"
