Mercedes Benz M presented in a version for the Pope

If any of you are interested in the car fleet of the Vatican Popes, then you surely know that they have been loyal to Mercedes-Benz cars for several decades . Now, Mercedes has decided to officially present its latest M-Class model in the Papamobil version during a special ceremony held in the Vatican.

The keys to the new papamobile were personally handed over to Pope Benedict XVI by the head of the car company, Dr. Dieter Zetsche. The new model of the M class has significantly better equipment and also larger dimensions of the glazing, in which the Pope is located while driving.

Spectators will have a better overview of its sanctity thanks to the car's larger glazing, and it is also a matter of course that the entire body is reinforced with bulletproof foils to prevent possible assassination. Another innovation compared to the existing papamobile is a specially designed throne that looks extremely comfortable and has a hand-embroidered coat of arms of the Holy Father .

The new popemobile will be used by Benedict XVI, for example, for trips after celebratory ceremonies or for the celebration of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in Spain.

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class Papamobil is the latest in a long line of specially designed models for Catholic Church leaders. The relationship with the brand began more than 80 years ago, when Pope Pius XI was the first to use a Mercedes Benz Nürburg 460 Pullman Saloon. The year was 1930.
