Jaguar builds five C-X75 prototypes

Although it might seem that the concept of the British automaker Jaguar called the C-X75 was just a successful work exhibited in 2010, now it looks like it will also go into small series production. Jaguar reportedly started building five prototypes designed to test the aerodynamic capabilities of the vehicle and, above all, to test the advanced power unit. The spiritual successor of the Jaguar XJ220 has obviously finally been given the go-ahead.

The original concept with an output of almost 780 horsepower was powered by four electric motors, which were supplied with juice by lithium-ion batteries. These were powered through a pair of gas turbines instead of a conventional four-stroke internal combustion engine. The current version will rely on a turbocharged four-cylinder with a displacement of 1.6 liters, which in cooperation with a pair of electric motors will have an output of 373 kW (507 hp). In addition, the hybrid drive unit will be connected to a single-speed gearbox and will spin the wheels of the rear axle. In addition, the KERS system developed in cooperation with the Williams F1 team will also be present, which will recharge the batteries. And while the concept was able to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, the novelty should reduce this time to under 3 seconds. The maximum speed should then exceed 320 without major problems.

The new super sports Jaguar should go on sale in 2014 for an as yet unspecified price. According to everything, however, it should most likely attack the one million euro mark.
