TOP 10 News for 2014 – Martin Tolar

10. Nissan Pulsar

In Japan, perhaps they finally came to their senses and returned the classic hatchback to their portfolio. I really missed the little Nissans, especially when the namesake of the new model wasn't a bad car at all. And you might even remember the Pulsar GTI-R rally special. Well, now hopefully we'll see the Nismo sports version. If so, it is quite possible that Pulsar will repeat its participation in my TOP10 in a year.

9. BMW M3/M4

When the new eMko first appeared, he was not happy about its six-cylinder supercharged with two turbochargers. I also have a few critical comments about the Smokey Burnout feature. But when you get used to the fact that this is how things are in Munich now, you will find that the car as a whole will not be bad. And I'm probably one of the few who doesn't mind a new name. The 6 series has been separated from the 5 since forever , so I just don't understand the cursing of the 2 and 4 series this year.

8. Ford Mustang

To celebrate the fiftieth, they gave a new foal to their wild thoroughbred in Ford . Even in the new generation, it hasn't lost its retro look and powerful engines. In addition, you can also buy it with the four-cylinder Ecoboost . That it will spoil the tradition? Come on, the Mustang used to have four cylinders, but it didn't look this great. In addition, no one is forcing the Mustang with EcoBoost on us, but perhaps thanks to a larger range of engines, we will see them on the streets more often, which is only good.

7. Toyota Aygo

This year we saw the second generation of French-Japanese colognes. We also rode one in the editorial test, which will be released soon. As small cars for the city, they simply work. But the Aygo also adds great looks. The samurai mask looks damn good on him. Although it is limited by the smaller choice of engines, I would still choose it out of the three.

6. Mercedes-AMG GT

The new sports car from the AMG division looks great. Next to it, the SLS suddenly looks old and wrinkled to me. But I don't want to hurt him, he's still great. But over the past few years, the design has evolved and the younger sibling is now more stylish.

5. BMW M235i

The noble two is four positions higher than the orthodox eMko? Of course, when a three-liter straight-six engine hides under its hood. In addition, the base price can fit into a million crowns. After all, it is sensational, for such a price to get a stylish Munich coupe with a proper engine room under the hood.

4. Renault Twingo

Renault has once again made the Twingo a revolutionary car. Since the days of the Fiat 126 , having an engine in the back in a small car has not been worn at all. And on top of that, stuff the luggage compartment in the back and offer the smallest car in a five-door version? This is bordering on gambling. Let's hope that the little bum will catch on and we'll see her more often.

3. Jaguar E-Type Lightweight

Yes, in the 21st century you can go to Jaguar and pay them big bucks for a brand new E-Type . Jaguar Heritage will produce 6 of these cars by hand using period procedures and according to period documentation. So today you can buy a new car from 1963. Can you imagine anything cooler? But the car company carefully selects those six lucky mortals, so put those millions back in the safe. Anyway, I applaud Jaguar for this move.

2. Subaru WRX STI

You can read praise for the new WRX everywhere. Why not, when it kept all the great ingredients like the turbocharged four-cylinder boxer 2.5 or symmetrical all-wheel drive . In addition, everything is wrapped in a much more attractive guise than at any time before. Evidence of his qualities is, for example, the record time on the Isle of Man .

1. Mazda MX-5

This year I finally got to drive the third generation Mazda MX-5 and understand why it is one of the most amazing cars. And to top it all off, Mazda has given us the all-new fourth generation, which wins my pick today. Puristic interior, great driving position, more balanced proportions and lower weight. The Kodo design direction has dressed it all up in a very chic jacket and as a whole it makes a car that you really want to drive.
