Mercedes revealed the final form of the AMG GT sports coupe

The indirect successor of the Mercedes SLS AMG is certainly not just some "baby version" of it. The Mercedes-AMG GT , as the novelty for the Paris Motor Show is called, looks quite similar, but has lost the gull-wing doors and is lighter , smaller and cheaper .

We can start directly with the body design, which will be slightly different thanks to the offer of two models . The basic proportions, with a long front hood, large (and somewhat controversially shaped) LED headlights, a radiator grille with a prominent logo, frameless doors, LED taillights, a retractable spoiler and a diffuser, are the same for both AMG GT and AMG GT S models. The "Esk" version differs from the standard one with a different design of 19-inch wheels with 295/30 tires (the AMG GT has 255/35 tires at the front and 295/35 at the rear), black painted tailpipes, a different mesh of the radiator grille and more aggressive bumpers. In both models, however, due to the increased center of gravity, you won't find the gull-wing doors that were the hallmark of the SLS AMG.

Similar to the new S-Class Coupé, the interior is divided into imaginary two halves by a massive central tunnel . There is an embossed logo of the automaker on the large armrest, and unlike the S-Class, the AMG GT also has a pair of classic alarm clocks, supplemented by a multimedia system with a display size of 7 or 8.4 inches on the center panel. Control is via the touchpad, which significantly reduced the number of various buttons. An interesting detail are some necessary "studs" on the track of the car. The sporty and luxurious car also includes first-class materials , here represented by leather upholstery and decors in chrome or carbon fiber.

The 4546 mm long , 1939 mm wide and 1289 mm high coupe with a 2630 mm wheelbase weighs only 1540 kg without the driver (1570 kg in the S version). The almost ideal weight distribution in the ratio of 47:53 promises very capable driving characteristics, which the automaker actually confirms with the statement that it wanted to create a car for enthusiastic drivers. The four-liter eight-cylinder with a pair of turbochargers (placed between individual rows of cylinders) under the hood will certainly have its share in this perception of the car.

In the classic AMG GT, if you can call it that, the engine produces 462 hp at 6000 rpm and 600 Nm between 1600 – 5000 rpm. The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic from Getrag (Controlled Efficiency, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual modes) with the option of manual shifting, sending power to the rear wheels, is assisted by a mechanical limited-slip differential , which managed to squeeze the acceleration figure to 100 km/h in 4 seconds and get the maximum speed up to an electronically limited 304 km/h, all with an average consumption of 9.3 l/100 km. The stronger version of the AMG GT S has an output of 510 hp at 6,250 rpm and a torque of 650 Nm between 1,750 – 4,750 rpm. With the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (plus Race mode), but with an electronic limited-slip differential , the Mercedes accelerates in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 310 km/h, all while consuming 9.4 l/100 km. For the Mercedes-AMG GT S, the AMG Dynamic Plus package is available, which adjusts the engine speed with the help of engine and transmission modifications, so that power is available between 6000-6500 rpm and torque between 1750-5000 rpm.

The front and rear axles are equipped with double wishbones and both cars also have specially tuned dampers. While those in the AMG GT are relatively normal, the AMG GT S has adaptive dampers (for an additional fee, also for the AMG GT) with three modes – Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. ESP also has the same number of modes, but here they are referred to as ESP On, ESP Sport and ESP Off. The perforated discs of the Mercedes-AMG GT are 360 mm in diameter, while the sports discs with red calipers in the AMG GT S are 390 mm in diameter. Carbon-ceramic discs with a diameter of 402 mm at the front and 360 mm at the rear are available at an additional cost.
