The McLaren P1 lapped the Nordschleife in less than 7 minutes

The famous Nordschleife of the German Nürburgring has one more record holder . Britain's McLaren boasted that its P1 hypersport covered the 20.8km section in less than seven minutes .

The car manufacturer did not publish the exact time and is still vague about the average maximum speed . According to the press release, this should be higher than 178 km/h . If the average speed were equal to 178 km/h, it would go around the P1 circuit in exactly 7 minutes. A 1 km/h higher speed means a time of 6 minutes and 58 seconds, and an average speed of 180 km/h would mean a time of 6 minutes and 56 seconds , which would be enough to beat the current record holder among road models – the Porsche 918 Spyder with a time of 6 minutes and 57 seconds. But these are all just theoretical calculations and only McLaren knows the truth at the moment.

The test P1, codenamed XP2R , had the 'Race' mode on, meaning the active rear wing was extended by 300mm. The ground clearance was 50 mm lower than in normal operation and the suspension was 300% stiffer.

Behind the wheel of the silver P1 sat the brand's chief tester Chris Goodwin , who was able to drive on the Döttinger Höhe straight at a maximum speed of 330 km/h. Goodwin had to change gears on average every 6 seconds and the DRS system was used seven times during one lap.
