BMW 7 series after facelift

The life journey of the current generation of the luxury BMW 7 Series has reached its halfway point, so it is time to slightly rejuvenate both the appearance and the technology used. However, don't expect any revolution in terms of appearance. In this case, the facelift is really decent and does not disturb the originally designed curves in any way.

We can notice, for example, nine slats instead of twelve in the kidney stones, different chrome strips on the front bumper, new strips on the rear bumper, but what will definitely interest us the most are the new full-LED diode headlights.

Undoubtedly, the novelties in the interior include newly designed leather seats, a 1200-watt Bang & Olufsen sound system with 16 speakers, an illuminated center speaker that can be inserted into the instrument panel, and a 10.25-inch central display with 3D graphics. If desired, customers can also enjoy entertainment in the rear seats via a pair of 9.2-inch flat monitors located in the rear seat backrests. But let's take a look at the technology hiding under the front hood.

New among the more economical part of the drive units is the 750d xDrive version, which is a six-cylinder diesel with a displacement of 3.0 liters doped with three turbochargers producing a maximum power of 280 kW (381 hp) and 740 Nm of torque. With this powerful six-cylinder engine, even a heavy limousine is able to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. If you are asking about consumption, it is at the level of 6.4 liters per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle. However, the question remains how far this figure is from reality.

Customers can also choose from the second generation of the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 hybrid drive system. The difference compared to the previous generation is mainly in the engine used, when the eight-cylinder fork was replaced by a more compact in-line six-cylinder with a displacement of 3.0 liters and an output of 235 kW (320 hp). A synchronous electric motor with an output of 40 kW (55 hp) and an eight-speed automatic transmission cooperate with the six-cylinder engine. High-performance lithium-ion batteries, a braking energy recovery system and Hybrid Start/Stop cannot be missing. The power of the entire system is 260 kW (354 hp), and the torque value then stopped at 500 Nm. Thrifty with a combined consumption of 6.8 liters per 100 km, it can also show its dark side, which is manifested, for example, by acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in an excellent 5.7 seconds. The ActiveHybrid 7 is able to travel a distance of 2.5 kilometers on pure electric energy at a speed that must not exceed 60 km/h.
