Cadillac is preparing a rival for the BMW M3

The sports variant of the Cadillac ATS , bearing the traditional V designation, is still surrounded by a number of questions and speculations. The last one is the possibility that the 3.6-liter six-cylinder , which was originally supposed to appear under the hood, will be replaced by a 3.2-liter six-cylinder .

The twice-turbocharged unit is based on the GM design for V6 engines, which is used in the naturally aspirated version by the Australian Holden , for example, and you can also find its foundations in the Alfa Romeo Brera, Spider and 159 with the 3.2 JTS engine .

The reason for changing to a smaller unit is said to be the fact that it offers more room for various modifications. This should give Cadillac a smoother path to the 500 horsepower target the ATS-V wants to approach. It would mean that the "little" American will be more powerful than the new BMW M3 , which will only have 430 hp.
