Radical RXC – Circuit special for road use

The British company Radical deals with the production and operation of circuit specials. However, it also offers road-legal models, including the latest RXC coupe, which looks like it has driven off the starting line of the Le Mans championship.

Even the manufacturer himself says that the RXC coupe is inspired by endurance race specials. This corresponds not only to the appearance, but also to the construction of the car. The RXC meets the safety regulations of the FIA federation and therefore the owner can participate in selected circuit races with it.

The basis of the RXC is a tubular steel frame, on which body panels made of composite materials and carbon fibers are mounted. The whole is assembled in such a way that, if necessary, the individual parts can be easily and relatively cheaply replaced.

The standard drive is provided by the V6 Duratec from Ford , which provides up to 380 hp and 434 Nm . Power flows through a seven-speed gearbox with paddle shifters under the steering wheel to the wheels of the rear axle. The whole system is high-performance, yet low-maintenance by the standards of circuit specials. The service interval for the engine and transmission is up to 10,000 km . By the way, the power unit meets the Euro 5 emission standard.

With this engine, the RXC can accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and the maximum speed is about 280 km/h , when the car's body creates a downforce of around 900 kg , which is equal to its weight. The power-to-weight ratio is approximately 420 horsepower per ton .

Ford's turbo four-cylinder EcoBoost with a volume of 2.0 l and a power of 300 hp will also be delivered to selected markets. Radical will eventually also offer its own racing V8 with a volume of 3.0 liters and an output of up to 480 horsepower . Both of these engines work with the same gearbox as the standard power unit.

The chassis of the RXC model received a racing suspension , while the shock absorbers can be optionally adjusted in four stages. The six-piston brakes have a diameter of 330 mm on the front wheels and 310 mm on the rear wheels. For an additional fee, they are available in carbon-ceramic design. Radical installs 17-inch wheels .

In the interior, customers will find a pair of bucket seats with six-point seat belts. The multifunctional steering wheel and pedals are fully adjustable . The exterior mirrors are also electrically adjustable and the windshield is heated. Air conditioning or power steering are truly comfortable elements.

The practicality of the Radical RXC is demonstrated by the manufacturer with a video (second below the article) where the blue coupe drives through the speed bumps. However, these are relatively low, so the question is whether the car would cope with the Czech ones as well.

Radical plans to produce up to 50 units of the RXC per year , with pricing yet to be announced. However, it should be lower than we would expect from a similarly specified car. This is in line with Radical 's current pricing policy.
