Do you remember the 1990s, when Toyota specials raced around world rally tracks? Who could forget the racing Corolla (photo in the gallery) or Celica ! Those days could soon return, as the German Toyota team is developing a new WRC special .
Toyota has promised to put some of that emotion back into its classic models, and it's honestly trying. Hand in hand with this goes the return to the racing track . The brand will enter the waters of the World Rally Championship with the Yaris model. Its development takes place in Cologne, Germany, under the auspices of the Toyota Motorsport division . Technical information is not known, but according to the current FIA rules, we can expect a turbo four-cylinder with a volume of 1.6 liters and a power of around 300 hp .
Although it seemed the opposite recently, WRC , as the royal class of rallying, is apparently coming back to life . Volkswagen has successfully entered the fray, and from next year Hyundai will also deploy its machine . Therefore, Toyota obviously does not want to be left behind and will start testing the Yaris WRC in the 2014 season. However, a spokesperson for the brand said: " This will be a fairly low-key project, with which we want to gain experience with the car ."
What does it mean? The sharp deployment of the Yaris WRC is not yet officially planned , and its tests will only serve to get to know the special vehicle in terms of driving and development. What will follow then is not yet known.
