Six sporty Audis you want in your garage

Audi sports were not nearly as boring in the past as they are today. Yes, they have high performance, all-wheel drive, sophisticated technology, an abundance of comfort and will comfortably fulfill the role of the first car in the family. Yet they lack something, a certain X factor . The British Autocar therefore looked back into the more or less distant past and selected six second-hand sports models with four rings that would be worth "a sin".

Audi RS2 Avant (1994 – 1995) – price 11,500 pounds (approx. 419,000 crowns)

Audi, which is more Porsche than Audi. Even so, one could characterize the RS2 Avant , which was a fairly ordinary Audi 80 Avant before the Porsche engineers pounced on it. However, almost nothing remained of it, but more than enough elements of the Stuttgart car company were added. The mirrors come from the 911 (and for them Audi had to redesign the bumper, which is similar to the 911 of the time), the wheels from the Porsche 964 and the brakes originate from the 964 Club Sport and 911 Turbo respectively. Even the badges used on the RS2 hide the Porsche logo motif.

Audi 's turbocharged five-cylinder was originally placed under the hood of the S2 coupe, but received a larger turbocharger , resulting in an increase in power to 315 hp and torque to 410 Nm. Thanks to a six-speed manual transmission and Quattro permanent all-wheel drive, the station wagon can shoot from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and reach up to 262 km/h.

Only problem? Get some in good condition . Fewer than 3,000 were made and many have already passed away. So it requires not only luck, but also the feeling to choose a relatively harmless piece . However, if you fulfill all this, the Audi RS2 Avant will reward you richly…

Audi ur-Quattro (1980 – 1991) – price 13,000 pounds (approx. 474,000 crowns)

The first four-wheeler with a turbocharged engine was created as a homologation special for the World Rally Championship, but in addition to racing tracks, it also succeeded on ordinary roads. In total, something like 12,000 units were produced with the turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the volume of which increased from 2.1 liters to 2.2 liters and the output from 200 to 220 hp over the years. By the way, the name refers to the all-wheel drive used, the connection ur comes from the German term for original or the first of its kind. And although you can use it every day, its operation and acquisition are certainly not cheap.

Audi Sport Quattro (1984 – 1986) – price 150,000 pounds (approx. 5.5 million crowns)

Having a road -homologated Group B special at home is a dream come true for almost every motorsport fan. The body of the original Quattro shortened by 320 mm with Kevlar parts, extended rear fenders and modified bumpers still commands well-deserved respect. Even more so if we look under the hood, where a 2.1-liter five-cylinder engine with a turbocharger and a lighter aluminum block with a capacity of 299 hp is "enthroned". All wheels are driven via a supposedly phenomenal five-speed manual. However, with only 214 produced, each keeps the price very high. The 150,000 pounds is only a basic estimate, because the very best specimens do not come with a price below 495,000 pounds (approx. 18 million crowns).

Audi S2 Coupé (1990 – 1995) – price 5,000 pounds (approx. 182,000 crowns)

The first production car with the S badge and the four rings was already talked about once. Its 2.2-liter five-cylinder with a turbocharger takes care of the drive of the RS2 Avant. However, in the two-door coupe, its output did not exceed 300 hp – before the modernization, the output was 220 hp, after it 230 hp. Unfortunately, the driving characteristics do not quite match the powerful engine, although even the S2 was equipped with Quattro all-wheel drive . A slight improvement came after a facelift in 1992, when the S2 received a six-speed manual gearbox and revised steering. In addition, it is also the relatively "most ordinary" car from our selection, which corresponds to a price of around 5,000 pounds for a less well-preserved piece. However, if you want a polish, prepare at least a five-figure sum.

Audi R8 (2007 – 2015) – price 45,000 pounds (approx. 1.6 million crowns)

The youngest of our six is also the only pure supersport that Audi has produced in larger numbers. Thanks to its seventh birthday and the imminent arrival of a new generation, prices have fallen somewhere to the level of upper mid-range sedans , and if you don't insist on an automatic, you can even get below the mentioned price limit. A big advantage is the variety of versions , including both V8 and V10 engines (the V8 is a bit more refined and can be recommended over the V10) and, in addition to the coupe, the open Spyder. However, this one will go with the prices a little higher, as well as some of the several limited series.

Audi S4 (2003 – 2005) – price 5,000 pounds (approx. 182,000 crowns)

A cheap way to get an eight-cylinder Audi ? Buy a third-generation Audi S4 with a 4.2-liter eight-cylinder engine with an output of 344 horsepower from the A8 limousine! The BMW M3 is slightly more appealing to drive, but you won't get it for £5,000. Another advantage is the wide range of body variants , including, in addition to the sedan, a station wagon and a cabriolet. Just beware of higher service costs, which is why it is better to request a service book when buying.
