The new special Hyundai i20 WRC will be presented in Monte-Carlo next year

Test driver Kevin Abbring and his co-driver Sebastian Marshall took turns behind the wheel of the new generation i20 WRC with team number one Thierry Neuville and his co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul . Hyundai Motorsport originally planned to introduce the new car to the WRC series already this season, however, due to changes in homologation, it will postpone the premiere of the new generation i20 WRC to the beginning of next season at Rallye Monte-Carlo . The current Hyundai i20 WRC spec is set for a host of improvements in the remaining rallies of 2015 to keep the team in contention for the podium in its second season in the WRC series.

Team boss Michel Nandan commented: “ We've had an intense week full of tests. Kevin and Thierry worked mainly on the engine and chassis tuning. We had hoped to introduce the new car later this season, but unfortunately due to problems with the homologation schedule, our program will be delayed. We have decided to continue working on the five-door version of the new generation i20 WRC, which will compete in Rallye Monte-Carlo next year. The new plan thus gives us more time to ensure that the new special is where we want it to be in terms of performance. The existing Hyundai i20 WRC will then receive several important improvements that we hope will keep us in the fight for the podium this season. "
