Opel is preparing a return to motorsport

Opel is making a big comeback. Since 2005 , he will compete with his factory team in one of the circuit championships for the first time ever! Opel mini Adam and hatchback Astra OPC have to return the past glory of their sports models.

Let's start with the smaller of the pair of Opels. The Adam R2 was designed according to FIA regulations for the R2 rally group (only one axle driven, 1.4 or 1.6 liter engine, weight 1030 kg…) and will participate in its own Adam Cup championship in Germany. The latter aims to find and educate young and promising rally drivers who could also compete in the World Rally Championship within a certain period of time.

A larger model based on the Astra OPC hatchback is primarily intended for circuit racing. Following the example of the Adam, the Astra will also have its own championship – the Astra OPC Cup , and in addition to it, the model is also designed so that it can immediately enter the VLN endurance championship. In addition to these two events, Opel announced an ambitious plan to drive the 24h Nürburgring with the Astra.

Unfortunately, Opel has not published the prices or any technical details and will not publish them until next spring…
