Mitsubishi a leader in the field of safety

So far, only 3 out of 14 tested cars in the compact SUV category have received the Top Safety Pick+ award from the American non-profit organization, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) . Two of them are proud of the logo of three diamonds. After the Mitsubishi ASX succeeded in this year's tests, the third-generation Outlander model for 2014 also received the title of Top Safety Pick+ . Mitsubishi is thus the only car manufacturer to receive the highest award for safety in the given category twice.

The IIHS is now awarding a new Top Safety Pick+ award to those vehicles that offer the highest level of occupant protection in the event of a crash. Earning this award proves that the Mitsubishi Outlander meets the American non-profit organization's new, stricter crash test standards.

The IIHS rates a car as "Good," "Acceptable," "Marginal – Borderline," and "Poor" based on its results in the following areas: partial overlap frontal impact, small overlap frontal impact, side impact, roof strength test, and protection against rear impact. The Top Safety Pick+ award goes to a vehicle rated as "good" in at least four of the five areas tested, with no worse than "acceptable" in any of the tests.

The remaining 11 cars tested in the compact SUV category were rated as "poor" or "marginal" in at least one of the areas tested – among them the Toyota RAV4 , Honda CR-V or Mazda CX-5 .

Outlander was not awarded for safety for the first time. It received five stars in ANCAP crash tests in Australia and JNCAP in Japan. In addition to five stars in crash tests by Euro NCAP , it was awarded by this independent European institute for the Frontal Collision Mitigation (FCM) system, which was designated as the latest advanced safety system.
