Mazda 6 Sedan 2.0 Skyactiv-G – a great petrol classic

The Mazda 6 is a vehicle that has already passed our editorial test, and not so long ago. However, it was a diesel engine in combination with an automatic transmission and a wagon body. Currently, however, we got our hands on a six with a two-liter gasoline engine in connection with a manual six-speed gearbox and a classic sedan body.

The vehicles of this car manufacturer have already become quite a part of my skin, and I must say that I always look forward to their test. This is mainly due to the excellent ergonomics of the interior space, the good feeling of driving the car, which has SKYACTIV technology and, last but not least, the great external appearance of the current design direction of the Mazda car company.

The tested Mazda 6 sedan confirms these theses again. As for the exterior design, editorial car, there is not much to complain about. It is a relatively large car, but it has very elegant and dynamic features that, on the contrary, successfully suppress its overall size. The size of the front mask with chrome edging contrasts effectively with the size of the front lights, which are quite small in terms of size. The overall impression of the front part is then predatory and dynamic. The side profile of the car is characterized by the profile of the front fender, which goes up to the upper hood, and then the very elegant line of the roof of the sedan body, which is noticeably more elegant than in the wagon, station wagon. The rear part is carried in the spirit of simplicity and clear readability, enlivened by a pair of separate sports chrome tailpipes of the car's exhaust system.

The interior of the Mazda 6 is the already mentioned excellently applied ergonomics. The dashboard is clear, the controls are very accessible. I already traditionally praise the indicators of the speedometer and tachometer, these are classic round analog clocks with numbers with a pleasant graphic presentation. However, I would praise a little less the third, digital alarm clock in the instrument cluster, which displays data from the on-board computer, the level of fuel in the tank, or the current consumption. It is she who is represented strangely with a flickering hand, which did not make a very credible impression on me. The tested car was equipped with a seven-inch display of the multimedia system, which is primarily controlled via the HMI interface, which is located on the center panel. The display graphics are not advanced in any way, but they are still very easy to read and clear. The interior of the car has a really large interior space, both in the front and rear positions. The trunk is also large, offering you 480 liters of luggage space with the possibility of folding the rear seats using the controls, which are logically located at the upper edge of the trunk. Due to the size of the vehicle, the trunk is quite deep, but accessibility is somewhat limited by the shape of the car body itself. Unfortunately, its elegant shaping of the roof part results in one more negative thing, namely that it is worse for taller figures to get into the back seats.

The two-liter petrol specification is available in two power variants. We had the stronger one at our disposal, with a power of 121 kW (165 hp). The SKYACTIV-G engine is a direct injection petrol engine with the highest compression ratio of 14.0:1 in the world. It is an engine with a classic atmosphere that likes to be revved up and its full power potential only comes at higher revs. Here, its combination with a manual six-speed gearbox becomes an ideal alliance, and you can also enjoy the joy of sharper and more dynamic driving, with which the two-liter six has no problem. The consumption in our editorial test was around 7 liters and it must be said that we did not skimp on this "family sedan" in any way. The six is equipped with the G-VECTORING CONTROL system, which solves the optimal load on each wheel when passing through a corner, an invisible helper whose interventions in the steering you will not really feel at all, or the i-ELOOP system, which cleverly recovers braking energy into a capacitor for reuse, for example for air conditioning, or audio system.

The Mazda 6 with a weaker two-liter gasoline engine, six-speed manual transmission and basic Emotion equipment, which is only available in the sedan version, starts at a price of CZK 577,900 incl. VAT. The car we tested had a more powerful two-liter gasoline engine and Revolution equipment, here the manufacturer's price list informs about the amount of CZK 754,400 incl. VAT.

The tested representative of the Mazda brand did not disappoint me again, the repeated adjectives about spaciousness, reliability, good ergonomics, excellent engines or pleasant external appearance are again appropriate.
