Mandatory equipment in individual parts of Europe

Do you know, for example, that in Spain you must have two prescription glasses, or that in Belgium , motorcyclists must wear prescribed clothing, or that if you park your vehicle on a hill in Estonia , you must secure it with a wedge? The Ústřední automotoklub (ÚAMK) focused on all the differences in the rules and mandatory equipment and made a comprehensive overview from all over Europe.

Belgium

  • Motorcyclists must wear protective clothing ie: gloves, long-sleeved jacket, long pants and boots with ankle protection.

Bulgaria

  • All vehicles, except motorcycles, must be equipped with a fire extinguisher.
  • A reflective vest is mandatory for anyone exiting a vehicle during an emergency, including motorcyclists.

Croatia

  • Children under the age of 12 may not travel in the front seats. The exception is children under 2 years old placed in the "egg" and with the airbag turned off.
  • Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to be transported on a motorcycle or moped.
  • Vehicles with a trailer must have 2 triangles.

Denmark

  • On highways, the driver must use the warning lights of his car to warn other motorists about the formation of a line or other danger, for example an accident, an obstacle on the road.

Estonia

  • A reflective vest is mandatory for anyone exiting a vehicle during an emergency.
  • Obligation to carry a fire extinguisher in a two-wheeled vehicle.
  • It is mandatory to carry two foundation wedges (wooden or plastic sleepers) to prevent possible movement when the vehicle is parked on a hill.

Finnish _

  • Pedestrians moving along unlit roads or roads outside built-up areas with reduced visibility must wear reflective elements on their clothing.

France

  • Motorcycle helmets must have reflective elements according to EHK 22-04 regulation.

  • A fire extinguisher is mandatory in passenger cars and two in buses.
  • It is forbidden to transport children under 12 years of age and shorter than 145 cm on the back seat of the motorcycle.

Great Britain

  • Left-hand drive motorists should ensure their headlights are adjusted for left-hand driving or risk being stopped by the police and fined up to £1,000.
  • A medical certificate issued abroad that exempts its holder from wearing a seat belt is not valid in the UK.
