Duster for Pikes Peak 2011 – Official Info

We already reported on the upcoming version of the Dacia Duster for the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race, but now official information has emerged.

The car is built exclusively for this prestigious race and the main work was undertaken by the heads of Tork Engineering, in cooperation with Renault Sport Technologies. Duster will compete in an unrestricted class, which is not subject to such strict rules, so the designers could let their ideas go a little more. But the proven concept has been preserved – tubular chassis, body made of composite materials and a huge rear thrust wing.

As we mentioned earlier, the necessary power will be supplied by a six-cylinder unit with a content of 3.8 liters, originally from the Nissan GT-R. It was placed in the middle for better weight distribution, and in conjunction with the Sadev six-speed sequential gearbox, it produces an incredible 634 kW. Unfortunately, Dacia did not release more information.

According to Jean-Philippe Dayraut, who will be piloting the Duster, this is the only race in the world where you have to keep such a powerful monster under control as it flies through the countryside on a varied combination of track surfaces. He says he cannot recall a single company where such a situation can be encountered. However, it should be noted that the competitor is not a newcomer, but the holder of three victories at the Andros Trophy.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb starts already on June 26, 2011.
