BMW introduced the new 4 Series coupe

For a long time, BMW from Munich kept us excited about what the new mid-range coupe will actually look like, which will lose the traditional designation 3 at the expense of the new 4. Today, the curtain has fallen and we can see the BMW 4 in all its glory.

However, beauty is somewhat mundane. At first glance, the design follows the 3 Series sedan and station wagon . Only the front bumper, vented fenders, and taillight arrangement are different. Of course, a couple of side doors are missing. The same situation is also repeated in the four-seat interior , where the basic model is distinguished only by the metallic panels in the doors. Higher versions can then be equipped with "premium leather", wood paneling or an information system.

If you happen to be unhappy with the stock appearance, BMW offers an alternative in the form of the M Sport package . He additionally sharpens both bumpers, adds sill extensions, darkened windows and larger wheels. The interior will receive sports seats and several decorations, while the chassis will be reduced and more sporty hardness. There will also be two other design packages – Modern and Luxury .

If we wanted to compare the new "four" with the previous "three", we would find that the novelty is 26 mm longer, 43 mm wider and 16 mm lower. In the language of numbers, this means 4640 mm in length , 1830 mm in width and 1360 mm in height. As for the wheelbase, it grew by 50 mm between generations to 2810 mm. The trunk has a new volume of 445 liters (five liters more than before).

A trio of engines will appear under the hood at the start of sales. The base is a 2.0 diesel four-cylinder ( version 420d ) with 184 horsepower, which cooperates with an eight-speed automatic and in combined mode claims only 4.6 liters of diesel per 100 km. The gasoline branch is represented by the 428i version , with a turbocharged 2.0 four-cylinder with a power of 245 horsepower under the hood. This version will be available with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.

The provisional top of the offer will be the 435i version with a twin-turbo six-cylinder with a volume of three liters and an output of 306 horsepower. Like its weaker petrol sibling, the 435i will be available with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic. You can also choose xDrive all-wheel drive for both petrol engines. Later, BMW will offer three more versions – 420i (184 hp), 430d (257 hp) and 435d (313 hp). You can also look forward to the top version of the M4 with over 450 horsepower.

The price list in Great Britain starts at 31,575 pounds (approx. 954,000 CZK) for the 420d version, while the British will pay 40,795 pounds (approx. 1,232,000 CZK) for the top version of the 435i.
