Petrolhead on the move – Technical Museum Liberec

Like many other cities, Liberec also lost its exhibition center . However, instead of demolishing and replacing it with another useless shopping mall, Liberec decided to preserve the building and turn it into a technical museum .

Originally, a museum of tram transport was to be built on the site, but the plans ultimately fell through. The initiative was taken up by the local veterans' movement , which after the successful exhibition decided to stay in the premises of the exhibition center. After vicissitudes with the authorities and proper cleaning and reconstruction, the Liberec Technical Museum was officially opened in Pavilion G on September 6, 2014.

And how does the museum attract gasoline fumes enthusiasts into its bowels? For example, the Ratrac snowmobile, which once served the ski resort on Ještěd . The Polski Fiat 126P Wadera , which we will introduce in more detail later, often keeps company outside. Inside, the Saab 96 will probably catch your eye first. One of them is the very first registered Saab in Czechoslovakia . Next to the entrance is the beautifully restored Praga Piccolo , next to it is the partially restored Walter Wiz , and the Wanderer in find condition keeps them company. As a whole, the cars show the hard work of vintage car restorers. You can also meet the original Multikára in the exhibition. In addition to older cars, younger exhibits also have their place in the museum, such as the NSU Ro80 with a rotary engine, the Fiat 600D or the Tatra 603 . Licensed Fiats also have their own corner – Lada 2101 in public safety livery, Polski Fiat 125p , Zastava 1100 and the Indian Premier car. It was supposed to start being imported to Czechoslovakia in 1990 and sold for a magical 99 thousand crowns. However, no one wants to pay a similar amount for an ugly zhigulik, and the project eventually failed.

In addition to automobiles, there is also a stunningly reconstructed part of an airplane , a number of bicycles, two tram cars , and a number of tram and car models. It also includes a modernly equipped workshop where young people can take part in the maintenance and renovation of exhibits as part of their learning experience. If we have enticed you to visit, go to the museum from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The basic entrance fee is 100 crowns, pensioners and children go for half.
