Lexus has announced the names of the 12 winners of the second annual Lexus Design Award , an international design competition that opened on August 1, 2013. During the application period that ended on October 15, 2013, Lexus received a total of 1,157 projects . From the mentioned number, the six judges selected 12 winners after a careful assessment.
Two participants from this group of winners will get the unique opportunity to create a prototype of their competition project in collaboration with two renowned designers: Robin Hunicke , a game designer, or by architect Arthur Huang . These two designers have personally chosen two winners to work with as mentors; in their selection, they were guided by uniqueness, originality, connection with the main theme of Curiosity and the possibilities of real prototype production.
Robin Hunicke has chosen the Iris project by Sebastian Scherer from Germany, while Arthur Huang will oversee the Macian project by James Fox from the UK. The winners will collaborate with their mentors on the basis of regular creative workshops. The finished prototypes will be presented together with ten other winning projects in the Lexus exhibition at the Milan Design Week (from April 9 to 13, 2014).
The award ceremony will take place on the evening of Tuesday 8 April at the Circolo Filologico Milanese , where each of the winners will receive a 2014 Lexus Design Award trophy from Lexus International .

• Prizes will be awarded to the twelve winning finalists. Creators of award-winning works will be invited to Milan Design Week 2014. • Two submitted projects from the twelve winners will each receive up to five million yen (approx. 38,000 euros) to cover the costs of prototype production. The authors of these two winning projects will then create prototypes of their winning designs in cooperation with assigned mentors from February to March 2014. • These two prototypes, together with a panel presentation of ten other finalists, will be presented in Milan as part of the Lexus Design Amazing 2014 exhibition (Lexus showrooms) during Milan Design Week from 9 to 13 April 2014. |
