Honda Civic Tourer – Kombi returns to the BTCC!

After twenty long years, the British Touring Car Championship BTCC will see the return of an estate racing car . In 1994 it was the Volvo 850 Estate and the next year the Honda Civic Tourer will take to the starting lines.

In 1994, the Volvo car company in conjunction with the TWR team used a Volvo 850 with a station wagon body in the BTCC championship (photo in the gallery). Although the car caused quite a stir, it did not finish better than third in qualifying and fifth in the race. Therefore, Volvo , with the help of drivers Rickard Rydell and Jan Lammers , finished the season in eighth place among the brands. The Honda Yuasa Racing team will try to rectify the reputation of racing estates in the 2014 season with the Civic Tourer .

The Honda Yuasa Racing team is no rookie, having finished in first place both seasons in the last two years. At that time Civic hatchbacks were used, but by the 2014 season the team will go with a combi version of the car. Under the hood will be a newly developed turbo four-cylinder with a volume of 2.0 liters and an output of over 300 horsepower . We can expect the same engine, but with lower power, in the upcoming Civic Type R.

Testing of the Civic estate car will begin in early January, with the first hard-fought race scheduled for the weekend of 29-30 March 2014 at Brands Hatch . Drivers Gordon "Flash" Shedden and Matt Neal will sit behind the wheels of the two Tourers . Civics from other teams will also appear on the track, but they will be exclusively with hatchback bodywork.
