Audi presented the open version of the A3 hatchback

The Audi A3 model range will finally be complete for the Frankfurt Motor Show. A three -door convertible with a classic canvas roof and MQB platform will be added to the hatchback with three or five doors and the sedan .

Thanks to the MQB modular concern platform , the A3 has a curb weight of 50 kg less than its predecessor (1365 kg), but it is still more than 100 kg heavier compared to the classic three-door hatchback. The bodywork is completely new, which will have higher torsional rigidity and will be larger – between generations it has grown to 4.42 m in length and 1.79 m in width. The height has been reduced by 15 mm to 1.41 m, the wheelbase has increased to 2 .6 m. The luggage compartment offers, with the roof down, 287 liters, which is 60 liters more than before.

The appearance of the body follows the style that was established by the basic hatchback. There are 16 body colors to choose from and 16- to 19-inch wheels. Thanks to the electronics, the fabric roof can be extended or folded in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. For more mobile customers, there is also an "acoustic version" of the canvas roof, which has a thicker inner foam layer, thanks to which so much noise does not flow into the cockpit. While the classic roof is only available in black, the acoustic version can be black, brown or grey. A wind deflector is standard from the middle Ambiente equipment.

The four-seat interior is again based on the hatchback, compared to which it has practically not changed. In addition to the Attraction, Ambition and Ambiente trim levels, the offer also includes the traditional S line package (pictured). Bang & Olufsen audio or an MMI information system with navigation and a seven-inch monitor will be available for an extra charge. Even the cabriolet will not be deprived of Audi connect , thanks to which the passengers on board can connect to the Internet.

Two TFSI petrol engines and two TDI diesel engines will appear under the hood. The basic petrol 1.4 TFSI has 140 hp, the more powerful 1.8 TFSI has 180 hp. The 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI diesel units have an output of 110 hp and 150 hp, respectively. The 1.8 TFSI cooperates with the S Tronic transmission as standard, the other engines are equipped with a six-speed manual. Select units can also have Quattro all-wheel drive for an additional fee. The standard chassis can be replaced by its sportier version , which has a ground clearance reduced by 15 mm. If you choose the S line package, the chassis is 25 mm closer to the road.

The top of the range remains the S3 version , powered by a two-liter TFSI with 300 horsepower in combination with a six-speed S Tronic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. The S3 Cabriolet accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, the average consumption is 7.1 l/100 km. In terms of appearance, the S3 will receive modified bumpers, eighteen- or nineteen-inch wheels and a chassis lowered by 25 mm.
