The Mitsubishi ASX has received a prestigious award for safety

The 2013 Mitsubishi ASX has received the top safety award of "Top Safety Pick+" from the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). In a test of thirteen new models from the small SUV category, the 2013 ASX was one of only two cars with a good overall result.

The IIHS is now awarding a new " Top Safety Pick+ " award to vehicles that offer the highest protection for occupants in a crash. Winning this award proves that the Mitsubishi ASX meets the new stricter crash test standards of the American non-profit organization.

The IIHS rates a car as "good," "acceptable," "marginal – borderline" and "poor" based on its scores in several areas. The vehicle is subjected to a frontal impact with a 40% overlap, an impact with an overlap of 25%, a side impact, a roof strength test and there is also a rear impact protection test. The last test focuses on the risks of cervical spine injuries due to the seats and head restraints used.

The "Top Safety Pick+ " award goes to a vehicle marked as "good" in at least four of the five areas tested, with no worse than "acceptable" in any of the tests.

A number of advanced technological solutions contribute to the positive evaluation of the Mitsubishi ASX. In particular, the Reinforced Impact Safety Evolutuion (RISE) safety technology, which is built on a body with a high ability to absorb impact. The 7 airbags (including the driver's knee airbag) that are part of the ASX's standard equipment also contribute to a high level of passive safety.
