What will Volvo show in the future?

The Swedish car company in Chinese hands – it's currently Volvo . And although many criticized the transition under Chinese wings , judging by the latest news and news, Volvo is doing very well.

Geely (the owner of Volvo) wants to take advantage of this, and in cooperation with Swedish engineers, work has already begun on a new modular platform, Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA). This will, for technical reasons, only be available for cars from the V40 series and up. However, if you have been following Volvo for a long time, you will certainly not be surprised that the brand does not even peek into the lower segments.

The first model on the modular platform is to be the new generation of the large SUV XC90 , which will arrive next year. In addition to SUVs, the 90 series will also include the S90 sedan (the successor to the current S80) and the V90 station wagon (the successor to the current V70). We could wait for the premiere maybe next year.

However, the new XC40 compact crossover is to be released even earlier. Its main goal will be to flood the Mercedes GLA , Audi Q3 or BMW X1 . In the automaker's hierarchy, the XC40 will be positioned between the current V40 Cross Country and the XC60 SUV. The 40 series will not remain impoverished either. Volvo is planning a rival for the Volkswagen Golf, as well as a more spacious successor to the S40 sedan , which ended last year and is still without a replacement.

The C60 coupe , which will arrive in 2016 and will be inspired by the legendary P1800 coupe , is to be the darling of the menu. The cabin is supposed to have a 2+2 layout, but unfortunately we won't see five-, six- or eight-cylinder engines under the hood. As we recently informed you, Volvo fully trusts four-cylinder or even three-cylinder engines . More powerful four-cylinders should have a maximum output of 310 hp, three-cylinders 207 hp. The plug-in hybrid technology is supposed to bring an extra portion of performance.

So it seems we have a lot to look forward to. At least in terms of engine selection, it will be interesting to see how Volvo (fails) to succeed.
