What will appear under the hood of the new pair of sports convertibles?

The life of the current Mazda MX-5 is slowly coming to an end. Together with Alfa , the Japanese automaker is working hard to complete the new generation , from which the new Alfa Spider will be derived. What will both roadsters offer under the hood?

Mazda will stick to its successful SkyActive technology . In the MX-5, the atmospheric engine with this technology will have a volume of 1.6 liters and a power of 132 hp. At first glance, this value does not seem high, but with a weight of about 800 kg , even a relatively modest power can give the car a good workout. After all, the often praised 205 GTI from Peugeot from the eighties and nineties had no more.

In the Alfa , fans can expect a slightly larger portion of performance. The basic 1.4 TB offers "only" 121 horses, but the top version gets 300 horses ! As for transmissions, both models should receive a six-speed manual, possibly a six-speed automatic with paddles under the steering wheel.

Engineers at Mazda are also reportedly speculating on the possibility of a diesel MX-5 . Fortunately, reason prevails at Mazda for now, because it looks like this variant will not get the green light. The main reasons are the high weight and almost zero demand for a similar type of car.
