Volkswagen unveiled a new twelve-cylinder

For quite a few years, the world has been ruled by downsizing , i.e. extracting as much power as possible from engines with the smallest possible volume by means of supercharging. From time to time, however, there is a manufacturer that simply rejects similar trends and equips its new car with a large-volume eight- or twelve-cylinder engine. And one such engine, complete with twin turbocharging, showed at the Vienna Motor Symposium Volkswagen.

Its novelty is officially called 6.0 W12 TSI and at 6000 rpm it gives a maximum output of 608 horsepower. The torque curve looks even more impressive, as the entire 900 Nm is available between 1500 – 4500 rpm ! In order to reduce consumption, the twelve-cylinder is equipped with a stop/start system, deactivation of half of the cylinders and a number of other optimization gadgets. Optimum behavior is guaranteed by direct injection of FSI from Audi and indirect injection of TMPI from Bentley, adaptive suspension with an electromagnetic accumulator wants to reduce vibrations.

Without specifying the specific model, Volkswagen published the dynamic data of the new engine. 100 km/h is covered by the unnamed car in less than 4 seconds and it continues up to 300 km/h. And so that the designation "the most economical twelve-cylinder in the luxury segment" does not come to nothing, we also know the consumption of less than 10.4 liters of the most economical model with this unit.
