Volkswagen revives the GSR designation

Forty years ago , the yellow and black Volkswagen Beetle with the designation GSR (Gelb Schwarzer Renner = yellow and black racer) premiered at the Chicago Auto Show. This year, the retro successor premieres at the same auto show. And it looks almost the same as its predecessor!

The modern reincarnation will also offer a combination of yellow base color and black on the hood, roof and trunk lid, but unlike the old Beetle, the new Beetle GSR can still be finished in a combination of silver and platinum. The design is completed by bumpers or thresholds from the R-Line version and 19-inch Tornado wheels. Some elements of the R-Line version can also be expected inside, where a yellow thread contrasts with the black upholstery.

Under the hood, there is no longer a fifty-horsepower engine like the predecessor, but a modern turbocharged 2.0 TSI four-cylinder engine with an output of 210 horsepower , which is connected to a 6-speed manual or DSG automatic. Although it cannot compete with the old original in terms of acceleration (7.3 s) or maximum speed (238 km/h), it still has style to give away.

You can find out if a similarly stylish car has been created this time as well, for example this weekend at the auto show in Chicago, USA . And if you can't make it there, at least take a look at the cool photos in our gallery, which show one of the 3,500 piece series of this model.
