Volkswagen is preparing a sporty Golf with a plug-in hybrid system

The sporty offer of the Volkswagen Golf currently includes two models – the GTI petrol type and the GTD diesel type . A third member, the plug-in hybrid Golf GTE , should be added to this family this year.

The abbreviation GTE, which stands for GT Electric , means that under the hood this time we will find some connection with electricity. The Golf GTE will be a plug-in hybrid with a powertrain from the Audi A3 e-tron. This means a petrol four-cylinder 1.4 TSI with a capacity of 150 hp and an electric motor with a capacity of 102 hp. In total, the hatchback will have 204 horsepower and peak torque of 350 Nm.

8.8 kWh accumulators , placed under the rear seats, will take care of the energy supply for the electric motor. The dynamic parameters of the Golf GTE with the six-speed dual- clutch transmission eS tronic are certainly not bad – acceleration to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and a maximum speed of 217 km/h. At the same time, consumption should be just 1.5 l/100 km and CO2 emissions will drop to the limit of 35 g/km. There will also be a purely electric mode with a range of 50 km and a maximum speed of 130 km/h.
