Volkswagen is preparing its own competition for the Mercedes CLA

The compact four-door coupe category is not yet nearly as densely populated as the same category a segment or two above. But that will change in a few years, and today practically the only representative in the form of the Mercedes CLA will have competition from, for example, Volkswagen.

What it could look like is indicated by the 4597 mm long , 1422 mm high and 1838 mm wide New Midsize Coupé concept . With these dimensions, the latter is wider than the Passat, but shorter than the Jetta, which, together with the new Golf , is probably the most similar in terms of design. It is probably unnecessary to go into detail here about how the front grille has a typical design of all new Volkswagens , how the elegant roof line of the four-door coupe stands out from the profile, or how it is difficult to get into the trunk with a volume of 500 liters… The coefficient of air resistance cx = 0 is certainly more interesting, 29 , Dragon Red metallic, LEDs in the front lights and twenty-inch wheels, and this combination suits the car exceptionally well.

If the body can be said to be almost stock, then the interior does not need to undergo any modifications . Once again, there is a touch of the current Golf and other models of the group. Under the jacket, the MQB-B platform is hidden along with a turbocharged two-liter TSI with a capacity of 220 horsepower, which, in combination with a seven-speed DSG automatic, allows the NMC to shoot to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and develop a maximum speed of 244 km/h. At the same time, consumption is 6.4 l/100 km.

The possible serial production is still shrouded in secrecy, which is also supported by VW by claiming that the NMC is just an exercise and a demonstration of what the modular MQB platform is capable of. However, say for yourself whether it would make sense to display an almost production car and then sweep it off the table, especially when there has been talk of a similar "image" car in connection with Volkswagen for several years…
